The Bourne Identity trailer analysis - action/ spy.

mise en scene: The setting is in France, Paris  during the winter. The characters are wering puffed coats and clothing for winter, e.g. boots, trousers, coat, sweaters, neck warmers. There are also other props such as guns, helicopters, cars, motorbikes and wires, as well as glass which is smashed through during a stunt. During the first scene the lighting is fairly dull because it could be metaphorical for the main character to be 'in the dark'.

However later on in the trailer most of the clips have a bright lighting, which could be due to the fact that it would be easier to see, or it could be because of the settings. However another character is wearing a leather jacket.

camera shots: The first shot is a panning shot, following the main character, whilst he is attacked, the camera quickly changes to different close angle shots, most of the shots are at the main characters eye level as well, so it emphasizes the situation that the character is in. Following that there are two panning shots which go closer towards a building or some characters very suddenly.

Although there is a use of many panning shots, there are also various close angle shots along with mugshots, the good mix between those creates a good watch for the audience, and also over emphasizes the action and tension which is happening. There is also a close up shot, which is also match on action as a soldier is kicking a door down.

There are very rarely any still shots, because the trailer's purpose is to keep the audience on edge, however one still long shot which is used shows the audience the main character and a side character driving through an abandoned road, which then goes straight into a close shot at eye level and an over the shoulder shot using the 180* angle.

editing:  Most of the cuts are sudden and quick, especially during the car chase, which is a great technique in order to make the audience tense and on their feet. There is also a scene where it cuts to black slowly and fades, then re appears suddenly, just like the character. There is also one special cut where it fades to blue and then another shot where it fades to green.

sound:  At the beginning of the clip, the audience is introduced to some non diegetic sound, for example a sudden drum burst of music, followed by some sound effects of punching and a gun cocking, then a character talks with diegetic music talking to the character.

This is followed by a narration of the character with the short story of the trailer, then there are several characters who speak to each other, and whilst the music gets more tense throughout the trailer, the narration increases in tension along with drum hits whilst approaching the climax of the film.
